It is the Humane Society of Western Montana's practice to recruit new members to the committees of the board. After committee service, the board may recruit committee members to sit on the board. Ultimately, however, nominations of new board members is at the board’s discretion and generally involves meetings with individuals, demonstration of commitment to our mission, and evaluating other community service and involvement.
Board Development Committee – The Board Development Committee is responsible for nominations and orientation of new board members and board officers. The committee also undertakes to plan board retreats, strategic planning, educational opportunities for the board, and other board related functions and duties.
Fund Development Committee – the Fund Development Committee oversees the Humane Society of Western Montana’s major fundraisers: the Ken Shughart Humanitarian Award Dinner and the Canine Classic and Wine and Bitch dinner at the Resort at Paws Up, as well as other fundraisers and events throughout the year. The Fund Development Committee assists in meeting specific fundraising targets by identifying and diversifying sources of funds.
Finance Committee – the role of the Finance Committee is primarily to provide financial oversight for the organization. This includes budgeting and financial planning, financial reporting, and the creation and monitoring of internal controls and accountability policies. The committee reviews policies and procedures annually, assists in preparation of an annual budget, and ensures audits are performed.
Legislative and Advocacy Committee – The Legislative Committee works diligently through legislative sessions and in between sessions to identify, draft, and support legislation that promotes animal welfare throughout the state. The committee engages in education and outreach. Their goal is to promote the welfare of companion animals, strengthening the human-animal bond, and safeguard the rights of companion animals consistent with the mission of the Humane Society of Western Montana.
Executive Committee – The Executive Committee is comprised of the officers of the Board of Directors, including the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. The Executive Committee is tasked with to determining the need for proxy voting on urgent issues.
