As a compassionate organization our hearts go out to all the families and pets who've been displaced because of fires in Western Montana. We want all of you to know we're here for you and ready to help.
We recognize that most people want to keep their pets with them. But that's not an option for every family. Even if you need short-term sheltering while sorting things out or longer-term options while you are displaced, our services are available.
We are happy to provide these services to our community; we are not charging a fee to house any pet evacuees.
For Fire Evacuees & Potential Evacuees
We know the process of leaving your pet in this situation is incredibly difficult. Here are a few things you can do to make the process easier on you and your pet:
Pick up paperwork ahead of time at HSWM. OR download the emergency release form and pet profile & bring them with you.
Locate your pet's vaccination records.
Bring a labeled container of your pet's food & any medications.
Drop off comforting items - like clothing, bedding & favorite toys.
If you have one easily avaialble, please bring your pet in a crate.
How Can You Help?
Adopt. If you've been thinking about adding a companion animal to your family - now is the time. Help us free up space in our shelter to temporarily house fire evacuee pets. Adoption fees are reduced during this time.
Donate Supplies. We need extra supplies as we take on pets from the community. You can help by donating any of the following items: Blankets, toys, dog treats, peanut butter, harnesses & leashes.
Volunteer. If you are a regular HSWM volunteer consider adding a few hours to your normal volunteer shift to help with enrichment for shelter pets and evacuee pets. Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help.
Contribute. We already have many fire evacuee pets in our care. Any monetary contribution to assist HSWM as we care for these pets our general shelter population is greatly appreciated. You can donate online here.
