Moving With a Pet

Moving can be stressful for you and your pets. Here are some tips and pet-friendly rentals that can help make the move and transition easier for all.

Helpful Tips

PET-FRIENDLY RENTALS:  Click here for a list of Missoula area pet-friendly rentals. Note:  There is no such thing as an 'aggressive breed,' but we opted to leave those rentals on the list.

Check Regulations: Check with local and state regulations regarding vaccinations needed to cross the state border with your pet and required by the city you will be moving to.

Visit Your Vet: Visit your veterinarian to update your pet’s vaccinations and obtain a health certificate. Your veterinarian may also be able to write a referral letter vouching for your pet, which can be helpful if you are renting.

Pet Travel Pack: Prepare a Pet Travel Pack if moving long distance. Include a comforting blanket, a few toys, water and food bowls, any medications your pet may need, a leash for rest stops, and proper confinement while traveling.
Id Tag: Make sure your pet has a current identification tag, which includes a number at which you can be reached or a message can be left.

Acclimating To The New Home: When you arrive to your new home, your pet may feel apprehensive about his or her new surroundings. Prepare a small space or room for your pet to help acclimate them to the new home. Cats especially need to be confined to a small space with a litterbox, food, water, and bed while they get used to their new surroundings.
