About Vaccines

Vaccines are a critical part of keeping your dog or cat healthy, as they provide protection from diseases such as parvovirus, distemper, panleukopenia and rabies. Not only can these diseases be fatal, but treatment can cost thousands of dollars. Vaccines are one of the most cost-effective ways to keep your pet as healthy as possible.

The core cat vaccine protects against feline viral rhinotracheitis (“herpes”), calicivirus and panleukopenia.

The core dog vaccine protects against distemper, adenovirus (hepatitis), parvovirus and +/- parainfluenza.

Puppies and kittens should be vaccinated every 2-4 weeks until they are over 20 weeks old to ensure they are properly protected.

Adult dogs and cats need to be vaccinated every 1-3 years, depending on the type of vaccine used.

Rabies vaccination of cats and dogs (and ferrets) is required in Missoula County.
